Senator Edwin Sifuna has assured supporters that the Linda Mwananchi political movement will stay united in the face of growing political interference and attempts to disrupt their activities.
Speaking at a rally in Homa Bay on Sunday, Sifuna revealed that efforts were made to block roads to prevent the meeting, but local residents defied the closures and opened the roads, enabling the event to proceed.
Unity Among Leaders
- Sifuna emphasized the solidarity between himself, Babu Owino, Siaya Governor James Orengo, and their supporters from the Mulembe and Luo Nyanza communities.
- “Even if enemies try to sow discord, we will not abandon each other,” he stated.
Political Landscape and Allegations
- Sifuna claimed that their movement has toured regions from the Coast to Western Kenya, observing limited support for President William Ruto in those areas.
- He linked internal disputes within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) to the death of Albert Ojwang in police custody, describing it as a violation of a government commitment to end political killings.
Additional Accusations from Regional Leaders
- Governor James Orengo accused President Ruto of constitutional violations and noted that 80 percent of young protesters who died in 2024 were from the Luo community.
- Orengo also questioned the circumstances surrounding the late Raila Odinga’s death and challenged the President to disclose details during an upcoming memorial in Bondo.
- Trans Nzoia Governor Moses Natembeya condemned alleged sabotage attempts by government-aligned goons and called on Kenyans who uphold democracy and human rights to join their cause.
