The Federal Government of Somalia has officially rejected reports alleging ownership of land and historic properties in Berlin’s Friedenau district. The denial was issued by State Minister for Foreign Affairs Ali Omar Bal'ad following widespread social media claims.
In a statement shared on his official X account, Minister Ali clarified that Somalia’s embassy in Berlin functions from rented offices and that there is no record of government-owned property in the German capital as claimed in recent reports.
Ali Omar Bal'ad said:
“Somalia does not have buildings in Berlin; where did you get this information? Our embassy operates in a rented office. If you have evidence supporting your claim, present it, and help us either locate this building you described or remove these misleading reports.”
The minister challenged those spreading the allegations to provide credible documentation or evidence. He emphasized that unverified claims cause public confusion and urged responsible parties to either substantiate their assertions or retract them.
This response is consistent with previous Somali government statements dismissing similar rumors about ownership of foreign properties. Officials continue to encourage the public to verify information through official channels and avoid sharing unconfirmed reports, especially on social media platforms.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterated its commitment to transparency and assured that any verified information regarding Somali state assets abroad would be communicated through appropriate government avenues.
