A 55-year-old farmer, Joseph Otieno Omogo, was fatally attacked by his son early Saturday in Ndhiwa Subcounty, Homa Bay County. The assault also critically injured another villager who was with Omogo at the time.

The incident occurred around 5 a.m. as the two men were heading to their farm in Ng’ope Village, Konyango Sublocation. Witnesses said the attacker wielded a machete during the ambush.

Assistant Chief Gabriel Nyatame confirmed the attack, stating he was informed by a village elder and found Omogo lying in a pool of blood with severe injuries. The other victim was rushed to Homa Bay County Referral Hospital, where he remains in critical condition.

Preliminary investigations suggest the attack stemmed from a prolonged family dispute between Omogo and his son. The conflict had previously been addressed both at the village level and in court, but tensions persisted. The son had reportedly threatened his father before the attack.

Local residents described Omogo as a diligent farmer well respected in the community and expressed shock over the violent outcome of the family disagreement.

The suspect fled immediately after the attack and is currently being sought by police. Officers from Ndhiwa Police Station collected evidence at the scene and launched a manhunt.

Authorities have urged community members to provide any information that could assist in apprehending the suspect, emphasizing the importance of avoiding vigilante justice.

The deceased’s body was taken to Homa Bay County Referral Hospital mortuary pending a postmortem examination. Community leaders in North Kabuoch have called for enhanced conflict resolution and counseling services to prevent similar tragedies.
