Authorities discovered the body of Geoffrey Kiprono Walley, a prime suspect in the killing of prison warder Abigael Chepkemoi, hanging in Kabunyony Forest, Eldama Ravine, Baringo County.
Police launched a joint search operation after the suspect’s red Bajaj Boxer motorcycle was found abandoned along the Eldama Ravine-Eldoret road. The public alerted the area chief, who then informed the police.
A team comprising officers from Sotik Sub-County Criminal Investigations Office, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Koibatek, and Eldama Ravine Police Station, with assistance from local residents, located Walley’s body hanging from a tree on Saturday.
Near the body, police recovered a black bag containing an empty insecticide bottle, an empty acaricide bottle, and a plastic bottle with clear liquid, which have been collected for further analysis.
Investigators revealed that on July 24, Walley informed family members via phone of his intention to take his own life. The scene was processed by detectives before the body was taken to Eldama Ravine Subcounty Hospital Mortuary pending a post-mortem examination.
This development marks a significant turn in the investigation into Chepkemoi’s murder, which prompted an extensive manhunt for Walley. Police continue to probe both the circumstances surrounding the warder’s death and the suspect’s apparent suicide.
