Sara Gilson, a 35-year-old TikTok influencer, and her estranged husband Jeremiah "Shawn" Duffey were discovered dead in their Owasso, Oklahoma residence on July 23. Both sustained gunshot wounds.
Authorities were alerted after a child present at the home called 911. A family member informed police that Duffey had broken into the property, fatally shot Gilson, then turned the weapon on himself. However, the official cause and circumstances remain under investigation.
Legal History Between the Couple
Court documents reveal a troubled relationship marked by protective orders. Gilson had previously filed two protective orders against Duffey in 2021 and sought a third in June 2026. The latest order was extended to remain effective until August 24, weeks after the incident.
Additionally, Duffey was ordered in June 2026 to maintain a distance of at least 100 yards from a local child and the child's home.
Social Media Clues
Less than two weeks before her death, Gilson posted a TikTok video referencing abuse allegations against her estranged husband. The video included the caption: "I wish I was joking," and read on screen: "Preparing for when Netflix drops a documentary about my soon to be ex husband who I just found out she abused a child." The clip gained renewed attention following the news of her death.
Owasso police continue to investigate the incident to determine the full circumstances surrounding the deaths of both individuals.
