The National Treasury has reaffirmed its commitment to provide adequate funding to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) for the upcoming 2027 General Election. This assurance was given during a consultative meeting held at the Treasury headquarters in Nairobi.

Treasury Principal Secretary Chris Kiptoo, speaking at the meeting chaired by Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi, emphasized the government's dedication to ensuring that the electoral process is free, fair, credible, and peaceful. The discussions focused on the IEBC's preparedness and financial requirements ahead of the polls.

"The government is fully committed to ensuring that Kenya is adequately prepared to deliver free, fair, credible and peaceful General Elections in 2027," Kiptoo stated.

The meeting brought together senior officials from both the Treasury and IEBC, including Chairperson Erastus Ethekon and commissioners, to review budgetary needs and strategize on the timely disbursement of funds. Early engagement between the two bodies is seen as vital for effective planning of the election's financial and logistical demands.

As the IEBC progresses with key preparations such as electoral reforms, voter registration, and procurement planning, the Treasury assured continued collaboration to meet constitutional obligations without funding delays.

With just over a year to the elections, the commission has been actively engaging stakeholders and state agencies to lay the groundwork for a credible electoral process. The Treasury's support is expected to enhance these efforts and mitigate past challenges related to funding constraints.
