Tensions escalated in Homa Bay town after two journalists were violently attacked while reporting on the upcoming Linda Mwananchi rally. The assailants, armed with crude weapons, assaulted the journalists, confiscating their press cards, driving licenses, cameras, and other belongings.
The victims were dragged along the road and beaten before a boda boda rider intervened and helped them escape. They subsequently reported the incident at the Homa Bay Police Station.

The attack coincides with heightened political unrest in the region, fueled by the Linda Mwananchi movement's call for elected officials to serve only one term. A senior regional political figure was recently recorded urging ODM supporters to confront members of the movement and discourage the one-term slogan.
