Hostilities between the United States and Iran reignited on Tuesday after Tehran launched multiple ballistic missiles in what the US military described as an attempted surprise attack on American forces in the Middle East.

US and Saudi Retaliation

In response, US and Saudi Arabian forces conducted strikes against Iran-aligned terrorist logistics and weapons sites in eastern Iraq. Centcom stated these actions were a strong retaliation to over 30 drone attacks directed by Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) over the previous 72 hours.

Saudi Arabia confirmed its military intercepted and destroyed drones targeting petroleum facilities in its eastern region, attributing the attacks to Iran-affiliated militias operating from Iraqi territory.

The resumption of attacks came a day after US President Donald Trump described ongoing negotiations with Iran as "very friendly," during a period when no strikes had been exchanged for three days. The brief lull followed 13 consecutive nights of US bombing campaigns targeting tunnels and bridges in southern Iran, which reportedly caused numerous casualties.

Control over the Strait of Hormuz remains a major point of contention, with Tehran denying that formal talks are underway. The renewed violence has driven up global oil prices due to concerns over potential disruptions to shipments through the strategic waterway.
