The United States military executed a significant wave of airstrikes against Iranian targets in retaliation for ballistic missile attacks aimed at American forces stationed in the Middle East.
According to US Central Command (Centcom), the strikes targeted dozens of installations linked to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), including military command centers, missile and drone facilities, coastal defense sites, and maritime assets.
These actions responded directly to Iranian missile launches on US bases in Jordan and attacks on ships navigating the strategic Strait of Hormuz.
Casualties and Target Areas
Iranian state media reported casualties from the strikes, including the deaths of a family of three—parents and their two-year-old child—on Qeshm Island. Additional strikes hit areas in southern and western Iran, notably the oil-industry hubs of Qeshm and Abadan.
Regional Tensions Escalate
The recent US operations follow a week of escalating conflict, which also saw the first publicized joint US-Saudi attacks against Iranian-backed militias in Iraq.
On Tuesday, Iran's IRGC claimed responsibility for missile attacks on a US base and command center in Jordan, as well as naval strikes on oil tankers in the Gulf, accusing the vessels of violating regional navigation rules.
Jordanian forces successfully intercepted five Iranian missiles targeting its territory, underscoring the rising regional volatility.
Diplomatic Efforts and Ongoing Conflict
Despite earlier reports of resumed diplomatic talks between the US and Iran, hostilities have intensified following the missile attacks. President Donald Trump promised a strong US response, stating the strikes would be "very hard".
Meanwhile, the US maintains that recent joint strikes with Saudi Arabia in Iraq were coordinated with the Iraqi government, although Baghdad condemned the attacks as violations of its sovereignty.
