Those wishing to contest a closure decision must file Form I-290B, the Notice of Appeal or Motion, to seek case reopening.
Special Provisions for Applicants Abroad and Military Personnel
- Applicants residing outside the US are exempt from attending ASC appointments but must submit two passport-style photos with their application.
- US military members deployed overseas benefit from an exemption preventing their applications from being abandoned due to missed appointments, recognizing the challenges posed by active duty.
Additional Notes
Unlike other immigration processes, N-600 applications are not forwarded to the FBI for background checks. Also, children under 14 may have a parent or guardian complete biometric steps on their behalf.

For lawful permanent residents aiming to naturalize, the process involves submitting Form N-400, attending biometrics and interviews, passing tests, and taking the Oath of Allegiance. Eligibility typically requires being 18 years or older and holding permanent resident status for at least five years, or three years if married to a US citizen.
