Kenya Power has confirmed a significant power outage impacting multiple regions across Kenya following an electricity supply disruption on Wednesday night.
In a statement released at 9:05 p.m., the utility company indicated that customers in Nairobi, the Coast, Mt. Kenya, and sections of the Central Rift were affected by the blackout. Meanwhile, electricity supply remained stable in parts of the North Rift and Western regions.
"Our technical teams are actively working to restore power to the affected areas as swiftly as possible," Kenya Power said, adding, "We apologise for the inconvenience and appreciate the public's patience during the restoration process."
The blackout was particularly noticeable in Nairobi, where large portions of the Central Business District were plunged into darkness. Some buildings managed to maintain lighting through backup generators. Additionally, commuters at Nairobi Railway Station and the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) terminus experienced power interruptions, as confirmed by videos circulating online.
The cause of the outage has not yet been disclosed by Kenya Power, but engineers remain on site to expedite the restoration of electricity supply to the impacted regions.
