The 2026 Wimbledon Championships recorded a historic attendance, welcoming a total of 550,151 spectators over the two-week event, surpassing figures from the previous year. This milestone was achieved despite the tournament coinciding with the FIFA World Cup, which typically commands a significant global audience.
Organisers attributed the record numbers to several factors, including the first rain-free Wimbledon since 2019 and the unexpected success of British wildcard Arthur Fery, whose run to the semi-finals boosted local interest.
Daily attendance records were broken on three separate days during the championships, highlighting the strong on-site engagement. Many attendees took advantage of Wimbledon’s iconic queue system to purchase tickets on the day.
The event also demonstrated robust commercial performance. Retail sales hit a new high with 117,995 hats sold throughout the tournament. Broadcasting figures reflected high viewer interest, with ESPN reporting the 2026 Championships as the second most-watched in Wimbledon history.
Social media presence expanded by 11% across all platforms, underscoring growing digital engagement. The women’s singles final, an all-Czech showdown between Linda Noskova and Karolina Muchova, was particularly notable in the Czech Republic. The match, broadcast on free-to-air channel Prima via Eurosport’s sub-license, captured a 38.5% audience share and peaked at 900,000 viewers.
