Agneta Mwangale Nafuna, a youthful political aspirant from Bungoma County, has gained notable public backing after her name was chanted by crowds during Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna’s recent rallies in Western Kenya.

The spirited reception at the Bungoma rally, where Mwangale briefly addressed attendees, highlights growing enthusiasm for young leaders ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Inspiration from Sifuna’s Rise

Mwangale, a Moi University graduate and former student welfare representative, credits Sifuna’s political ascent for inspiring hope among emerging leaders. She noted that his journey demonstrates leadership success is increasingly tied to values rather than wealth or age.

"Sifuna’s rise shows that the electorate now prioritizes effective representation and integrity over financial muscle or seniority," she said. "This shift encourages young leaders like myself to pursue public office with confidence."

Focus on Community Needs

Motivated by a perceived disconnect between politicians and constituents, Mwangale aims to address critical issues affecting Bungoma residents. She highlighted widespread lack of awareness about the woman representative role and its functions, including bursary allocation.

"Many people don’t know what their leaders are supposed to do; some politicians focus on wealth accumulation instead of solving real problems," she remarked.

Policy Priorities

  • Civic Education: Enhancing public understanding of leadership roles and responsibilities.
  • Economic Empowerment: Promoting financial literacy, entrepreneurship, agriculture, and participation in SACCOs to enable access to tenders.
  • Youth Employment: Tackling rising unemployment among educated young people by improving employability and creating opportunities.

Mwangale emphasized the importance of equipping women and youth with practical skills to foster self-reliance and community development.

Political Landscape

She will challenge incumbent Catherine Wambilianga, who has served as Bungoma Woman Representative since 2017 under the FORD–Kenya party.
