At least 13 individuals sustained injuries following a collision between two school buses in the Riting area of West Pokot County on Tuesday, July 28, 2026. The buses were transporting a total of 101 pupils at the time of the accident.

The Kenya Red Cross Society reported that six males and seven females were evacuated by emergency response teams to Kapenguria Referral Hospital for treatment. Psychosocial support services have been extended to those affected, while teachers and students have been relocated to a secure holding area.

Response units from both West Pokot and Turkana counties joined forces with county ambulance services, the National Police Service, and other emergency responders to manage the situation. Additionally, an ambulance from the Kenya Electricity Generating Company (KenGen) was dispatched to assist in rescue operations.

The Kenya Red Cross remains on site, providing ongoing assistance as investigations into the cause of the accident proceed.
