Thirteen students sustained injuries following a collision involving two school buses in the Riting area of West Pokot County. The buses were carrying a total of 101 pupils when the accident occurred.
The Kenya Red Cross Society confirmed that six males and seven females were among the injured. All victims were promptly evacuated to Kapenguria Referral Hospital for medical care.
Emergency response teams from West Pokot and Turkana counties, along with county ambulances, a Kenya Electricity Generating Company (KenGen) ambulance, and the National Police Service, were deployed to manage the situation.
Kenya Red Cross Society's response included:
- Providing first aid and evacuation services
- Offering psychosocial support to affected pupils and staff
- Relocating teachers and students to a secure holding area
- Coordinating welfare services for those impacted
The humanitarian agency remains on site to assess ongoing needs and assist those affected by the incident.
Road accidents involving school transport continue to demand coordinated efforts from medical teams, security agencies, and aid organizations to ensure swift and effective emergency care.
