A tragic road accident in Nairobi's Parklands area has claimed the lives of two pedestrians and left a 10-year-old boy critically injured. The incident occurred around 6 pm when a 16-year-old driving a Toyota Wish lost control, hitting a drainage ditch before veering off the road and striking three pedestrians.
Among the victims, 48-year-old Muchuki Mangaa died instantly, while another adult male succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash. The young boy was rushed to Aga Khan Hospital with severe head injuries. The teenage driver also sustained head and abdominal wounds and was admitted to the same facility.
Nairobi police commander Issa Mohamud confirmed that investigations are underway to determine the cause of the crash and how the minor came to be driving. The two deceased were taken to the City Mortuary pending post-mortem examinations.
Additional Fatal Crash in Marsabit
Later the same day, two men died and three others were injured in a separate accident near Dumpsite along the Marsabit-Segel Road. A Toyota Hilux collided with individuals repairing a broken-down vehicle after swerving to avoid a head-on collision. The victims, Samuel Kinyua Kirugi (35) and Stephen Wanjohi Njaramba (41), died at the scene and hospital, respectively.
Preliminary findings suggest poor visibility due to darkness and strong winds may have contributed to the crash. The Hilux driver and passengers sustained various injuries, with some escaping unharmed.
National Road Safety Concerns
These incidents were part of a deadly Sunday on Kenyan roads, with police reporting at least 21 fatalities nationwide from separate accidents. Victims included pedestrians, motorcycle riders, passengers, and drivers. Authorities continue to investigate and emphasize the need for improved road safety measures amid rising traffic-related deaths.
