The report highlights that 55% of reported cybercrimes on the continent now involve AI technologies, enabling criminals to execute more advanced scams. Online fraud remains the predominant threat, especially impacting the financial services, telecommunications, and government sectors.
Financial Impact and Regional Hotspots
Financial losses attributed to cybercrime in Africa have more than doubled since 2024, reaching an estimated US$484 million. Southern and West Africa are identified as the main hubs for scam operations, with 72% of surveyed countries confirming their presence.
