Airtel Money Kenya has unveiled Bizna Wallet, a new digital payment solution tailored for small business owners including kiosk operators, boda boda riders, and matatu drivers. The product was launched on August 3, 2026, with the aim of helping entrepreneurs manage business and personal finances separately.

Bizna Wallet Features:

  • Accessible via *334# USSD or the My Airtel App.
  • Operates as a separate wallet alongside the existing Airtel Money account.
  • Allows users to receive payments, view mini statements, and monitor business transactions independently.
  • Supports payments from customers across all mobile networks.
  • Includes safeguards against unauthorized payment reversals, a common fraud issue affecting informal traders.
  • Offers free incoming payments up to KSh 250,000 to encourage adoption.

Michael Bonke, Acting Managing Director of Airtel Kenya, explained that Bizna Wallet was developed after engaging with customers who highlighted the difficulty in separating business funds from personal money. "From one shilling to two hundred and fifty thousand shillings, you can pay to any Bizna Wallet in Kenya for free," he stated.

In addition to the wallet launch, Airtel Money revamped its Rudishiwa rewards program by replacing airtime rewards with cashbacks credited directly into a dedicated wallet. Registered users making transactions of KSh 101 or more receive 50% cashback, which can be transferred to their main Airtel Money wallet.

Direct Competition with Safaricom's Pochi la Biashara

Bizna Wallet positions Airtel Money in direct competition with Safaricom’s Pochi la Biashara, a similar business-focused wallet introduced in 2020 that has grown to serve over 2.1 million merchants by March 2026. Safaricom’s Pochi la Biashara generated KSh 4 billion in revenue for the year ending March 2026, an 86% increase from the previous year.

In response to market dynamics, Safaricom adjusted M-Pesa transaction fees effective August 1, 2026. Transactions under KSh 200 on Pochi la Biashara are now free, and other charges for business services like Lipa na M-Pesa Buy Goods and M-Pesa Business Till have been reduced to support affordability and business growth.
