Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso has expressed strong confidence in new signing Maxence Lacroix, highlighting the French defender’s leadership qualities and winning mentality ahead of the upcoming season.
Lacroix joined Chelsea from Crystal Palace in a deal reportedly worth £52 million. The 26-year-old signed a six-year contract and is set to join the squad for pre-season preparations.
Alonso’s Endorsement
Speaking during a press conference in Sydney, Alonso, who previously coached in the Bundesliga, praised Lacroix’s development and adaptation to the Premier League.

Lacroix’s Background

The defender has also earned seven caps for the French national team and featured in the recent World Cup.

Chelsea’s Transfer Activity
Lacroix is Chelsea’s latest high-profile signing following a record £117 million acquisition of forward Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa, and a £47 million transfer for right-back Marco Palestra from Atalanta. Earlier deals include Geovany Quenda and Emmanuel Emegha, agreed in 2025.
The club has also been linked with potential moves for Brighton striker Danny Welbeck and Brentford midfielder Jordan Henderson as Alonso aims to rejuvenate a squad that finished 10th last season.
