A Mavoko court has ordered the detention of advocate Angela Mulwa and Nelson Masiga Makaralu for 14 days to allow the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to complete inquiries into the theft of vehicles connected to the late Dr Victoria Nthunya Mutiso.
Magistrate Lilian Nyabando granted the detention on August 4, 2026, following a request by the DCI through officer Gilbert Okello. The two suspects are persons of interest in the ongoing probe into the demolition and theft at Dr Mutiso's matrimonial home in Mlolongo.
Details of the Investigation
- The stolen vehicles include a Range Rover Sport (Reg. No. KDU 799Y) and a Toyota Prado (Reg. No. KBT 935T), both owned by the Africa Institute of Mental and Brain Health (AFRIMEB), co-founded by Dr Mutiso and Professor David Musyimi Ndetei.
- Two additional vehicles belonging to Professor Ndetei, a Toyota pickup (Reg. KAK 225K) and Toyota Corolla (Reg. KAN 506B), were also reported stolen.
- The Range Rover was recovered at Angela Mulwa's premises, where both suspects were found in possession of the vehicles.
- The investigation also covers allegations of forgery, fraudulent eviction, and demolition of property valued at approximately Ksh1.5 billion.
Context and Legal Proceedings
Dr Mutiso was fatally injured on July 29, 2026, in circumstances linked to the ongoing homicide investigation led by the DCI Homicide Unit in Nairobi. Two suspects have already been arraigned in Milimani Law Courts on murder charges.
The court emphasized that the detention is not a determination of guilt, underscoring the presumption of innocence guaranteed by the Constitution.
Further forensic examinations, including digital identification and review of CCTV footage and communication records, are expected to continue during the detention period.
The case is scheduled for mention on August 19, 2026.
