Dr Victoria Mutiso murder: Angela Mulwa in court after rearrest

Angela Mulwa was brought back to court on Friday after being rearrested by homicide detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI). Her lawyer, Danstan Omari, raised concerns over the prosecution's reliance on miscellaneous applications instead of presenting formal charges.

Omari questioned why Mulwa had not been formally charged despite the authorities claiming to have sufficient evidence connecting her to the murder of Dr Victoria Mutiso.

This latest arrest came shortly after Mulwa was released on a Ksh 1 million cash bail in a separate case involving a Range Rover suspected to be linked to the murder probe. The Mavoko court had initially rejected a request by the prosecution to extend her detention by seven days while the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) deliberated on filing charges.

The prosecution has been focusing on tracing the ownership and movements of various vehicles believed to be connected to Dr Mutiso's death. Investigations continue into the role these vehicles may have played in the crime.

Background of the Case

Dr Victoria Mutiso was shot dead on July 29 while traveling in a taxi in Nairobi's Upper Hill area. The taxi was reportedly blocked at the junction of Mbagathi Link Road and Mawenzi Road by a black Toyota Prado. Gunmen riding a motorcycle then opened fire on the vehicle. Dr Mutiso was rushed to Kenyatta National Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.
