Pop icon Ariana Grande has announced her withdrawal from the upcoming London West End production of Sunday in The Park with George, scheduled for summer 2027 at the Barbican Theatre.
The 33-year-old singer was set to star alongside Jonathan Bailey in the Stephen Sondheim musical. However, her representatives revealed that she has chosen to take a "much-deserved break from public-facing work and appearances" following her Eternal Sunshine tour, which concludes in London on September 1.
Producers of the show confirmed her decision via the musical’s official social media, emphasizing their full support and understanding. They assured fans that the production will proceed as planned, with casting updates to be announced in due course.
Grande’s team cited ongoing public scrutiny, especially on social media, as a key factor in her decision to step back. Concerns about her health have intensified recently, notably after the release of her music video for "Petal," where fans noted significant weight loss. The artist has previously spoken out against body-shaming, calling it "really dangerous."
Beginning her career on Broadway as a teenager, Grande later achieved global fame in pop music. Her acclaimed role as Glinda in the film adaptation of Wicked earned her an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress. The success of Wicked and its sequel led to extensive media appearances over two years.
Looking ahead, Grande is slated to appear in the comedy Focker-in-Law with Ben Stiller and Robert De Niro, set for release in November.
