Authorities in California apprehended a 38-year-old man near the Trump National Golf Course in Rancho Palos Verdes ahead of President Donald Trump’s scheduled fundraising dinner at the venue.
Jeanine John Taele was found in possession of a loaded pistol and illegal ammunition. Investigators reported that Taele was seen roaming the golf course, taking photos and videos, and appeared to be observing security arrangements.
The arrest occurred on Sunday afternoon following a tip from plainclothes federal agents who flagged the suspicious individual to local law enforcement. Upon confrontation, police discovered Taele was wanted in connection with a robbery investigation by the El Segundo Police Department.
- Taele carried a 16-round magazine loaded with hollow-point bullets, which are designed to inflict maximum damage.
- His vehicle contained a loaded pistol and additional hollow-point ammunition.
- California law prohibits magazines holding more than 10 rounds, making these possessions illegal.
Subsequent searches of Taele’s home in Downey by the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force and the LA County Sheriff’s Major Crimes Bureau uncovered an illegally modified AR-style rifle, a .45 pistol, body armor, high-capacity magazines, numerous bullets, and notebooks with concerning content.
The investigation is ongoing with support from the US Secret Service, and further charges may be filed. Officials emphasized that no credible threat to the community has been identified.
Trump’s visit to California is part of a broader campaign effort ahead of the November mid-term elections. He is expected to deliver a speech critical of Governor Gavin Newsom and will later travel to Las Vegas for another event.
Despite Taele’s arrest, authorities have not linked him directly to any plot against the president. Trump’s security team continues to review protective measures following recent assassination attempts targeting the former president.
