Arsenal Football Club has reportedly reached an agreement with Newcastle United to acquire Brazilian midfielder Bruno Guimaraes for a fee of £75 million ($101 million).
The 28-year-old, who joined Newcastle from Lyon in 2022, has been a key player for the Magpies, contributing nine goals and eight assists across all competitions last season. His desire to move to the Emirates Stadium sparked significant transfer speculation in recent weeks.
Following Brazil’s World Cup campaign, Guimaraes rejoined Newcastle’s pre-season training camp in Spain. However, the departure of Newcastle manager Eddie Howe last week, who expressed concerns about losing the midfielder, added further uncertainty to his future at the club.
Arsenal’s Transfer Strategy
Compared to rivals Tottenham, Manchester City, and Chelsea, Arsenal have maintained a relatively quiet presence in the transfer market. Manager Mikel Arteta has not publicly confirmed interest in Guimaraes but emphasized the club’s ambition and intent to strengthen the squad.
Arteta stated, “We need to increase the competition internally. We need to make sure we identify the things that we don't have in the team.”
Arsenal are preparing to defend their Premier League title, with their opening match against Coventry scheduled at the Emirates Stadium on August 21.
