An autopsy report has confirmed that Dr Mutiso died from severe bleeding following multiple gunshot wounds. The examination revealed that she sustained three shots, two of which penetrated her head.
Dr Oduor, the pathologist who conducted the autopsy, detailed that the bullets entered from the left side of the head and exited the right, causing fatal injuries alongside chest wounds.
The findings will contribute to the ongoing forensic investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting of Dr Mutiso, the former Director of the African Institute of Mental and Brain Health.
Suspects in Custody as Probe Continues
Two individuals, Rose Mbithe Mulwa and her son Chris Mulwa, have been presented before Milimani Law Courts as investigations proceed. The suspects did not enter pleas during their initial appearance before Senior Principal Magistrate Geoffrey Onsarigo.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), through the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), has requested a 30-day detention order to allow thorough investigations.
Investigating officer Corporal Romana Odour informed the court that detectives need additional time to:
- Identify and trace other persons potentially involved,
- Record statements from key witnesses,
- Complete forensic examinations,
- Analyze electronic and documentary evidence collected.
The court's decision on the detention application is expected on Monday.
Incident Details
Dr Mutiso was shot on July 29, 2026, while traveling in an Uber along Ralph Road in Nairobi's Upper Hill area. Police continue to investigate the motive and full circumstances of the shooting.
