Kakamega Deputy Governor Ayub Savula has called on President William Ruto to investigate and take decisive action against former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua over allegations of leaking sensitive State House intelligence.
Speaking on August 1 in Kakamega, Savula expressed concern after Gachagua appeared to have prior knowledge of details in Ruto's national address before it was delivered on July 30.
Claims of Intelligence Leaks
During a meeting with clergy at his Wamunyoro residence, Gachagua described the upcoming speech as a "new congame," alleging that Ruto planned to launch a "Kenya Vision 2060" initiative and appoint former President Uhuru Kenyatta to lead it.
However, Ruto’s actual address focused on Vision 2030 and announced a National Conversation on Kenya's future beyond Vision 2030, without mentioning Vision 2060 or Uhuru Kenyatta.
Calls for Accountability
Savula criticized the apparent leak, stating:
- "How does the opposition know the president's secrets moments before his speech?"
- "We must hold Rigathi Gachagua accountable for accessing and sharing this information."
- "This undermines the presidency and cannot be tolerated."
Gachagua has previously claimed to have loyalists within the National Intelligence Service and National Police Service who provide him with classified information, a claim that has heightened tensions since his impeachment in October 2024.
