Kakamega Deputy Governor Ayub Savula has openly criticized Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna’s presidential ambitions, confidently predicting that President William Ruto will overcome Sifuna swiftly in the 2027 General Election.
Speaking at an event to launch an electricity transformer in Butere Constituency, Savula dismissed a recent interview by Sifuna where the senator suggested he could be a strong contender. Savula described the interview as lacking substance and a clear agenda, saying it failed to convince Kenyans of Sifuna’s readiness to lead.
Savula’s remarks included:
- “Stop daydreaming that you will be the president. William Ruto will defeat you early in the morning.”
- He also questioned Sifuna’s political alliance with Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, labeling the partnership as ineffective and doomed to fail.
Contrasting Sifuna’s approach with President Ruto’s record, Savula highlighted ongoing infrastructure and development projects under the current administration as factors that would secure Ruto’s second term.
Luhya Community Unity Ahead of 2027
During the same event, Savula urged leaders from the Mulembe Nation to unite to enhance their political influence. He emphasized that a cohesive Luhya bloc would strengthen their bargaining power ahead of the elections.
Butere MP Tindi Mwale supported this call, advocating for support of former Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya as Ruto’s preferred running mate. Mwale warned that disunity could cost the Luhya community the deputy presidency and cited benefits from the current government, including improved infrastructure and political appointments.
“In 2027 elections we must be number two as Luhyas; we have numbers, but unity is the problem, so let’s back William Ruto’s reelection for our community’s benefit,” Mwale said.
