The Azimio la Umoja coalition has embarked on a comprehensive rebranding effort while expanding its membership, following a council meeting held in Nairobi on August 3, 2026.
At a press briefing, Secretary General Caroli Omondi announced the admission of three prominent politicians into the coalition's council: former Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiangi, former Meru Governor Peter Munya, and former Embu Senator Lenny Kivuti.
New Parties Invited to Join
In addition to new council members, the coalition extended invitations to several political parties to either join or rejoin Azimio. DAP Kenya, a founding member, along with Umoja Na Maendeleo Party, PDP Party, and the Democratic Party received invitations. Their leaders confirmed intentions to complete internal processes before formal affiliation.
Structural Reorganization Underway
The council also resolved to restructure the coalition’s organizational framework as part of the broader rebranding strategy. Details on the specific changes remain undisclosed.
Azimio la Umoja, led by Wiper Democratic Movement leader Kalonzo Musyoka, was established ahead of the 2022 General Election, where it fielded the late former premier Raila Odinga as its presidential candidate.
