The Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party has announced a strategic reorganisation and rebranding initiative as it gears up for the 2027 general election.
During a joint Council and National Executive Committee meeting chaired by coalition leader Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka at Nairobi's SKM Command Centre, key decisions were made to strengthen the coalition’s internal structures and broaden its national appeal.
New Members Join Azimio
- Fred Matiang’i, Deputy Leader of the Jubilee Party
- Peter Munya, Leader of the Party of National Unity (PNU)
- Lenny Kivuti, Leader of the Devolution Empowerment Party
Secretary General Caroli Omondi confirmed the admission of these three prominent politicians into Azimio, signaling a significant expansion of the coalition’s leadership.
Invitations Extended to Additional Parties
Azimio has also extended invitations to several other parties, including:
- Democratic Action Party Kenya (DAP-K) led by Eugene Wamalwa
- Umoja na Maendeleo led by Kawira Mwangaza
- People's Democratic Party led by Omingo Magara
- Democratic Party led by JB Muturi
All invited leaders were present at the meeting and expressed willingness to join following their parties’ internal approval processes. Notably, DAP-K, a founding member of the coalition, is set to rejoin.
Broader Representation and Future Engagements
In a move to enhance inclusivity, Abdi Hassan from the North Eastern region was admitted to the National Executive Council. The coalition also plans further outreach to like-minded parties such as the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), People's Liberation Party (PLP), United Green Movement, and the pending Linda Mwananchi Party registration.
Present at the meeting were Executive Director Philip Kisia, Caroli Omondi, and representatives from affiliate parties including Wiper Patriotic Front, Jubilee, ODM, NARC, KANU, and PNU.
