Embakasi East Member of Parliament, Babu Owino, has successfully intervened to resolve a copyright conflict between musicians Kapitani and Master VK that threatened to keep their viral hit off digital platforms.
The song Kitemeo, popularly known online as "Bag Ni Ya Nini," had surged to the top of Kenya's YouTube charts before being taken down following a dispute over ownership rights. Master VK claimed full ownership and requested the song's removal, disappointing fans who were streaming it in large numbers.
On 13 August 2026, Babu Owino, who is also a qualified lawyer, announced on his Facebook page that both artists had sought his assistance to mediate the dispute. The parties reached an agreement, with Master VK consenting to reinstate the track on YouTube.
Babu Owino stated: "I'm glad we successfully resolved the dispute, and Master VK has agreed to have the song restored on YouTube as we work together on other major projects."
In a positive development, Kapitani and Master VK are collaborating on a new music project, with Babu Owino expected to feature in the upcoming music video. The MP used the occasion to call for a more supportive environment within Kenya's creative industry, encouraging artists to unite and grow collectively rather than engage in conflicts.
To celebrate the resolution, Babu shared a video of himself dancing to the hit song, highlighting the successful outcome of his mediation.
The news was met with widespread approval on social media, with many Kenyans commending Babu Owino’s role in settling the matter.

Separately, Babu Owino recently launched the Nairobi County Pool Championship, featuring qualifiers from various constituencies and a total prize fund of KSh5 million. Each constituency winner received KSh15,000 and advanced to the county finals, where the men’s champion was awarded KSh150,000. Prizes were also allocated for women’s and team categories.
