Businessman Jimmy Mwanzia Mutava disappeared on the evening of Monday, July 27, following a meeting with a senior police officer in Mlolongo, Machakos County. CCTV footage captured four armed men forcibly placing Mutava into a double-cabin pickup truck at around 8:22pm.
Mutava had reportedly been invited by the Mlolongo Police Station's Officer Commanding Station (OCS), identified as Mugambi, for a meeting at an entertainment venue known as Bijou, which operates from shipping containers.
David Muli, Mutava's uncle, accompanied him to the meeting and left Mutava in the company of OCS Mugambi, unaware it would be the last time he saw him. Hours later, CCTV recorded Mutava alone, speaking on the phone before a commotion ensued, ending the call abruptly.
Shortly after, the footage shows the calculated abduction: four men, two visibly armed with a rifle and a pistol, forced Mutava into the vehicle. The same pickup had been parked nearby earlier and was later seen moving through various locations in Mlolongo.
Phone records indicate Mutava's phone last transmitted a signal near Kamiti Road around 11pm, nearly three hours after the abduction.
Possible Link to Land Dispute Complaint
On June 10, Mutava filed a formal complaint alleging that community members were targeted by unknown individuals allegedly operating with police amid a land dispute. His family suspects his disappearance may be connected to this complaint, though no official confirmation has been made.
The family has reported the incident to Mlolongo Police Station, but no authority has confirmed custody of Mutava or provided information on his whereabouts. His wife, Margaret Mutuku, expressed the emotional strain on their four children, who anxiously await his return.
