CCTV footage has brought to light the sequence of events that culminated in the fatal stabbing of 30-year-old Kennedy Ngeno during a road rage incident near Nyayo Stadium along Mombasa Road.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday, August 1, involving multiple vehicles that abruptly stopped around 4am. The footage shows a Suzuki taxi and a Toyota Wish halting side by side, with a third vehicle parked slightly ahead.
The driver of the Suzuki taxi exited his vehicle and approached Ngeno, who was inside the white car. Attempts by the taxi driver to record the occupants using his phone were met with resistance from others present, leading to a heated confrontation.
As tensions escalated, the taxi driver, clad in a black tracksuit and hoodie, appeared to threaten the group before a physical altercation broke out. The footage shows the suspect stabbing one individual and then pursuing Ngeno, who had distanced himself from the scene. Ngeno was stabbed multiple times in the chest and collapsed shortly after.
Following the attack, the suspect recorded the aftermath, claiming he acted in self-defense after being attacked. He then left the scene in his vehicle while bystanders rushed Ngeno to hospital.
Ngeno was initially taken to Mbagathi Hospital but was transferred to Kenyatta National Hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival. An autopsy confirmed that multiple stab wounds, including a fatal one near the heart, caused his death.
The main suspect has been arrested. His lawyer denies any attempt to flee and maintains that the suspect was outnumbered and acted in self-defense.
