Chelsea Football Club officially announced the acquisition of England midfielder Jordan Henderson on August 3, 2026. Henderson, 36, joins the Blues on a two-year contract from Premier League side Brentford.
The experienced midfielder, who captained Liverpool and was part of England's 2026 World Cup squad, expressed enthusiasm about the move. "Given the size of the club, the manager, who I admire greatly, and the quality of the players, this was an opportunity I could not pass up," Henderson said.
He also praised Chelsea's ownership for their commitment to the club's success and direction. Henderson emphasized his readiness to contribute both on and off the pitch to support his teammates.
Henderson's recent career includes winning the Premier League and Champions League with Liverpool, a stint in Saudi Arabia with Al-Ettifaq, followed by a period at Ajax. He returned to the Premier League last year with Brentford on a two-year contract, which was terminated ahead of this transfer.
This signing comes shortly after Chelsea secured veteran forward Danny Welbeck from Brighton. The club has been active in the transfer market, previously breaking the British transfer record with Morgan Rogers' signing from Aston Villa, and adding defenders Maxence Lacroix and Marco Palestra.
Last season, Chelsea finished 10th in the Premier League, narrowly behind Brentford. Under manager Xabi Alonso, the team aims to improve as they prepare to face Fulham in their opening match on August 24.
