Comedian Jaymoh Decin has opened up about the anxiety and fear he endured following a viral skit impersonating President William Ruto. The parody, intended to promote his comedy show Sudhee Experience, attracted widespread attention and concern.
Viral Skit Sparks Concern
The skit featured Jaymoh mimicking President Ruto’s distinct speech, gestures, and facial features using exaggerated prosthetics. Though meant as a one-time promotional act, Jaymoh was aware it could draw official scrutiny.
"I told myself, 'I'm ready to get arrested,'" he explained, emphasizing his determination to perform the impersonation despite potential risks.
Two Days in Hiding
Following the skit’s release, online reactions heightened Jaymoh’s fears. Many viewers joked about the colour of his "Subaru," a nod to vehicles linked to DCI arrests, which unsettled him. Consequently, he stayed indoors for two days, anticipating possible arrest.
During this period, several senior politicians who are his friends reached out to check on his wellbeing, asking if he had been detained.
Unsettling Encounters and Family Worries
When Jaymoh finally went outside, he suspected he was being followed by a motorcycle, prompting him to flee. He later realized the motorcycle was unrelated but his reaction reflected his heightened alertness.
He also recounted a moment at the Africa Forward Summit when a presidential security officer recognized him and joked about the impersonation.
Jaymoh’s parents were deeply concerned for his safety throughout the ordeal, offering prayers amid the viral attention.
