The Milimani Court has reopened the inquest into the death of Rex Masai, permitting new witnesses to testify while restricting further recall applications to avoid prolonging the case.
Principal Magistrate Geoffrey Onsaringo ruled on Thursday that the National Police Service (NPS) could present six additional witnesses, and the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) was allowed to call two more witnesses, despite IPOA having previously closed its case.
However, the court declined a bid to recall witness Doris Mukiri Mugambi for a third time, citing concerns that it would unnecessarily delay the proceedings. Magistrate Onsaringo emphasized that no further recall applications would be entertained unless exceptional circumstances arise, and the court deems the evidence essential for a fair outcome.
Witnesses and Evidence
Summonses will be issued to the newly approved witnesses, whose testimonies will be scheduled at a later date. Expected witnesses include representatives from the Integrated Control and Communication Centre (IC3), Absa Bank, Makau Casino, Bliss Hospital, and International Life House.
Additionally, officers from Kamukunji, Kilimani, Pangani, and KICC police stations will be called upon to produce Arms Movement Registers relevant to the inquiry.

The case is set for mention on August 6, 2026, when the court will provide further directions and fix hearing dates for the new witnesses.
