Public Service Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku has come to the defense of Deputy President Kithure Kindiki following recent criticisms from former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
Speaking in Mauche, Njoro Constituency, Nakuru County, Ruku rejected Gachagua’s attacks as divisive and politically motivated. He emphasized that Kindiki, as the nation’s second-in-command, commands respect and has earned President William Ruto’s trust through demonstrated leadership and service.
Addressing Regional Allegations
Ruku dismissed suggestions that the Mt. Kenya region is at odds with President Ruto, attributing any tensions solely to Gachagua’s personal grievances after his impeachment from office. He stated:
- "There is no problem between the Kikuyu community and President William Ruto."
- "The issue is with one individual, Rigathi Gachagua, who harbors personal resentment following his removal as Deputy President."
Contrasting Leadership Records
The Cabinet Secretary highlighted the differing records of Kindiki and Gachagua, both from Mt. Kenya. He praised Kindiki’s loyalty, effective leadership, and service, which have solidified his position and the President’s confidence. Conversely, Ruku accused Gachagua of pursuing politics driven by vengeance and divisiveness.

Ruku reaffirmed that Kindiki remains President Ruto’s preferred running mate for the 2027 General Election, dismissing rumors about his political future. He also stated that the Mt.
