Dan Obado, popularly known as Dan Totto and son of former Migori Governor Okoth Obado, was involved in a car accident on the evening of August 1 while travelling from Nairobi to Migori.
Driving a Lexus LX 600, Dan sustained minor injuries in the collision and was immediately taken to hospital for treatment. He confirmed the incident on social media, noting that there were three people inside the vehicle and all escaped with minor injuries.
In a statement, Dan expressed gratitude to friends and family for their well wishes and prayers, saying:
"It’s true I was in an accident on my way home from Nairobi. Luckily, all three occupants in the vehicle I was driving and the driver of the other car (he was alone) escaped with minor injuries. In all, we give thanks to the lord."
The crash occurred amid a weekend marked by multiple fatal road accidents across Kenya. Police reported that on the same day, 11 people died in various road incidents, bringing the weekend toll to 36 fatalities nationwide.
Authorities continue to attribute the rise in road accidents to factors such as reckless overtaking, speeding, drunk driving, and poor vehicle maintenance including worn-out tyres and faulty brakes.
The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) alongside the National Police Service have intensified calls for motorists to adhere to traffic regulations, ensure their vehicles are roadworthy, and exercise heightened caution, especially on highways and accident-prone areas.
