The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has taken over the case of James (Jimmie) Mwanzia Mutava, a businessman from Mlolongo who vanished under suspicious circumstances on July 27, 2026.
CCTV footage reviewed by investigators and confirmed by Mutava's wife, Margret Mutuku, reveals that he was seen in the company of two police officers moments before masked gunmen abducted him.
Events Leading to Disappearance
- Mutava received a call from a senior police officer stationed at Mlolongo Police Station, asking him to meet at an entertainment venue in Mlolongo town.
- He was accompanied by his uncle, David Muli, to the location where he met the officer.
- CCTV footage shows Mutava seated with the senior officer and a female police officer before stepping outside to make a phone call.
- Shortly after, four masked men, two armed, forcibly took Mutava into a double-cab pickup and drove off.
Contradictory Police Accounts
The senior officer initially told the family he was in the washroom during the abduction. However, the CCTV footage contradicts this, showing him calmly seated and on the phone inside the venue during the incident. Both officers left only after the abduction was complete.
