Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have uncovered a new lead connecting the fatal shooting of psychologist Dr Victoria Nthunya Mutiso to a protracted land dispute in Mlolongo.
Investigators traced a Toyota Prado, believed to have been used to block the taxi carrying Mutiso moments before she was shot, to a vehicle reported stolen during a demolition at her Mlolongo property earlier this year.
Key Evidence: The Toyota Prado
The vehicle has become central to the murder probe after linking it to a February 12 demolition operation at Mutiso’s approximately 20-acre property in Mlolongo, Machakos County.
Police enforced a court-issued demolition order during which several vehicles, including the Toyota Prado, were reported stolen. The vehicle was allegedly used to intercept the taxi Mutiso was in just before gunmen on a motorcycle opened fire, fatally shooting her three times.
Investigation Into Demolition and Land Dispute
- One of the murder suspects had presented the demolition notice at Mlolongo Police Station before the operation.
- Mutiso filed a complaint at the station questioning the legality of the demolition and destruction of her property; this complaint remains under investigation.
- Detectives are exploring whether the land dispute and her police report escalated to the murder.
Previous Threats Under Scrutiny
Weeks before her death, Mutiso reported threats from three men on a motorcycle who warned her life was in danger. The DCI is investigating if these individuals were involved in the July 29 fatal shooting in Nairobi’s Upper Hill.
Postmortem Findings and Ongoing Probe
Chief Government Pathologist Johansen Oduor confirmed Mutiso died from severe bleeding caused by three gunshot wounds—two to the head and one to the upper back.
Two suspects, a mother and her son, have been arraigned, while detectives continue to gather evidence to determine if the land dispute, prior threats, and the murder are linked.
