The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has filed a request to hold Rose Mbithe Mulwa, also known as Rose Mbithe Ndetei, and Chris Mulwa for 30 days in connection with the murder of Dr Nthunya Mutiso.
Dr Mutiso was fatally shot on July 29, 2026, while riding in a taxi in Upper Hill, Kilimani Sub-County. The suspects are believed to have ties to a land dispute involving the deceased's family, which is currently the subject of a civil suit at Machakos Law Courts.
During a hearing at Milimani Court on July 31, Principal Magistrate Geoffrey Onsarigo heard that the extended detention is necessary to allow investigators to complete their inquiries and to prevent the suspects from interfering with witnesses or investigation processes.
The prosecution highlighted concerns that releasing the suspects could jeopardize their safety due to public outrage over the murder and could enable them to communicate with the unidentified gunmen still at large.
