The Ministry of Defence has confirmed steady progress on four significant infrastructure projects across Nairobi, Murang'a, and Kiambu counties. These developments include healthcare facilities and a sports stadium, all poised to enhance public services and support national development goals.
Healthcare Facilities Near Completion
The Githunguri Level V Hospital and Mutuini Level IV Hospital are approaching completion. The Mutuini facility, located in Dagoretti South, is a 400-bed specialised medical complex featuring five operating theatres, renal, burns, and trauma units, an ICU, NICU, paediatric ward, maternity wing, modern laboratories, and a fully equipped pharmacy. This hospital is a collaborative project between the Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Health, and Nairobi County Government.
Meanwhile, the Kenneth Matiba Eye and Dental Specialist Hospital in Murang'a County is halfway through construction. Once finished, it will provide advanced medical services and reduce the strain on existing referral hospitals in the region.
Thika Stadium on Track for 2026 Completion
The 10,000-seat Thika Stadium, designed to international standards, is currently 20% complete. The Ministry of Defence aims to finish the stadium by the end of 2026, fulfilling President William Ruto's promise. The facility is expected to create jobs, boost local economies, and foster sports talent development.
Leveraging KDF Engineering Expertise
Defence PS Patrick Mariru noted that the Kenya Defence Forces' engineering units are instrumental in delivering these projects with professionalism and quality. The Ministry remains committed to completing these strategic infrastructure projects within the planned timelines and to exacting standards.
Additional Infrastructure Updates
Recently, Chief of Defence Forces General Charles Kahariri inspected the Raila Odinga Stadium (formerly Talanta Stadium), which is in its final construction phase. Upon completion, this stadium will offer world-class amenities and is expected to play a central role in Kenya hosting AFCON 2027, supporting sports excellence and youth development.
