A Deputy Officer Commanding Station (OCS) from Drive In Police Station in Nairobi North and three other police officers have been arrested over an alleged kidnapping incident involving a couple in Babadogo.
The victims, Kanuti Konrid and Beatrice Naliaka Njoroge, who operate an online business, had gone to deliver a watch to a client when they were reportedly abducted by five men. The suspects forced the couple into a vehicle and demanded a ransom of Sh1 million.
According to the police report, the abductors first forced the victims to withdraw Sh17,000, which was rejected. They then took the couple to Equity Bank in Githurai to withdraw the demanded amount. While the husband went into the bank, he alerted the bank teller, who quickly informed the police.
Police officers responded promptly, causing three suspects to flee on foot while the driver sped away with the wife. One suspect, Stephen Okello, was apprehended at the scene. Further investigations led to the arrest of the Deputy OCS, Kelvin Mwangi, along with officers Oliver Baraza, Job Sidiga, and Cyrus Onyango.
Recovered items include five mobile phones valued at Sh120,000 and an Apple smartwatch worth Sh2,500. The suspects face charges related to kidnapping with intent to commit a felony.
