Deputy President Prof. Kithure Kindiki has emphasized the importance of unity among political parties supporting President William Ruto's 2027 re-election campaign. Speaking in Maralal, Samburu County, Kindiki highlighted that solidarity within the Broad-Based Alliance is crucial for electoral success.
During a ceremony welcoming defectors from the Jubilee Party into the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), Kindiki urged leaders to prioritize the government's development achievements, which he said form the coalition’s strongest campaign platform.
Kindiki's visit to Samburu County was marked by warm receptions from local supporters as he called on residents and leaders to back President Ruto’s administration. He underscored that the government’s development agenda aims to ensure equitable resource distribution across all regions, irrespective of voting patterns.
Addressing divisive politics
The Deputy President dismissed opposition criticism, accusing their leaders of promoting division rather than inclusive progress. He noted the increasing number of leaders and their supporters joining UDA as evidence of the party’s growing national appeal.
“Some may resist, but many are joining with their followers, showing a clear shift towards unity and development,” Kindiki remarked.
Local endorsements and calls for voter registration
At the event, Samburu Governor Jonathan Lelelit endorsed Kindiki as President Ruto’s preferred running mate for the 2027 elections, affirming strong local support for the current leadership team.
Former Jubilee Women League Chairperson Maison Leshoomo, who recently joined UDA, cited the government's positive impact in Samburu as her reason for defecting.
Leaders also encouraged residents to obtain national identity cards and register to vote as preparations for the upcoming general election intensify.
