The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has authorized the prosecution of nine Nakuru County officials alongside three companies over allegations involving corruption, procurement irregularities, conflict of interest, money laundering, and acquisition of proceeds of crime.
Following a detailed review of an inquiry file submitted by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), the DPP found sufficient evidence to proceed with formal charges. The investigation centered on procurement activities conducted by the Nakuru County Government, highlighting suspected fraudulent practices and conflicts of interest.
According to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), the accused face charges that include:
- Conflict of interest
- Money laundering
- Acquisition of proceeds of crime
- Willful failure to comply with procurement laws
- Engagement in corrupt and fraudulent procurement practices
The ODPP emphasized that the suspects remain innocent until proven guilty in a court of law, where the prosecution must establish the charges beyond reasonable doubt.
