Edin Dzeko, the 40-year-old Bosnian forward, has committed his future to FC Schalke by signing a one-year contract extension. The announcement was made by the German club on August 3, 2026.
Dzeko joined Schalke on a free transfer in January 2026 and played a crucial role in the club’s promotion to the Bundesliga after three seasons in the second division. During the campaign, he netted six goals in 11 matches, helping Schalke secure their return to Germany’s top flight.
Reflecting on the achievement, Dzeko said, "Winning promotion to the Bundesliga ranks among the highlights of my career. It was unbelievable." He added that his passion for football remains strong and expressed eagerness to contribute in the upcoming Bundesliga season.
The striker, who captained Bosnia and Herzegovina at the recent World Cup, could make his Bundesliga return when Schalke face Augsburg on August 30. His extensive career includes stints at clubs such as Manchester City, Roma, Inter Milan, and Fenerbahce.
