Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have detained the director of Region Group College in Eldoret over allegations of issuing counterfeit academic certificates to students.
The arrest follows an investigation that began after the Public Service Commission (PSC) reported irregularities during a job verification process. The suspect allegedly claimed the college was affiliated with Moi University to persuade a student to enroll for a Diploma in Business Management.
After completing the course, the student received a diploma that appeared authentic and presented it to an employer. However, during authentication by the PSC, the certificate was deemed forged, resulting in the student losing their job.
The DCI has forwarded the case to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), where charges including making a false document under the Penal Code have been approved. The director is currently in custody and awaiting court proceedings.
The DCI has urged the public to verify the accreditation status of academic institutions before enrollment and to report suspected certificate fraud to the nearest police station or directly to the DCI.
