The death toll from a severe collision on the Eldoret-Nakuru highway has increased to 11 after four injured victims succumbed to their injuries in hospital.
The crash occurred Thursday night at Mulima Punda near Lessos junction, close to Burnt Forest, involving a trailer and two matatus. Initial reports indicate the trailer, heading towards Eldoret, collided with a 15-seater matatu en route to Nakuru, subsequently impacting a second matatu nearby.
Among the seven fatalities at the scene were three students. Police investigations revealed the trailer was overtaking other vehicles when the accident happened.
Casualties and Hospital Updates
- Eleven people have died, including the matatu driver and six passengers.
- Eight others sustained injuries; most were admitted to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital, while some received treatment at Burnt Forest Sub-County Hospital.
- Bodies of the deceased were taken to Plateau Hospital Mortuary, where relatives have identified some victims.
- Those in the trailer and the second matatu suffered minor injuries and have been discharged.
Uasin Gishu County Police Commander Wilberforce Sicharani confirmed ongoing investigations into the cause of the accident and urged drivers to exercise caution on the roads to prevent further loss of life.
