Authorities at Embakasi Police Station are investigating a fire that destroyed a police officer’s residence within the GSU Embakasi B Campus in Nairobi.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Friday, July 31, when officer David Kwalanda was inside his uni-hut with two women. His former girlfriend arrived around 2 a.m. and reportedly found him with the two women, sparking a confrontation.
Following the dispute, Kwalanda escorted the two women out of the camp. It was then that fellow officers raised the alarm after noticing the officer’s house was on fire.
Colleagues quickly intervened to contain the blaze, but the fire caused significant damage. Household items and police equipment valued at about KSh 200,000 were destroyed. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
Investigations have identified Kwalanda’s ex-girlfriend as the main suspect believed to have deliberately set the house on fire after being removed from the premises.
This case highlights ongoing concerns about arson related to domestic disputes. Police continue to probe the circumstances surrounding the fire.
