Five days after the mysterious disappearance of businessman Jimmy Mwanzia Mutava in Mlolongo, his family remains without answers, as newly released CCTV footage sheds light on the events surrounding his alleged abduction.
The footage captures Mutava's arrival at an entertainment venue at 6:30 p.m., where he was dropped off by a white vehicle. Shortly after, a senior police officer from Mlolongo Police Station joined him inside the premises. Another man also appeared to join their meeting around 7:04 p.m.
Mutava’s wife, Margaret Mutuku, described the tense atmosphere, noting that armed men wearing masks were present during the encounter. At approximately 8:15 p.m., Mutava was seen using two mobile phones while seated, with a hooded individual standing nearby, monitoring the situation.
By 8:20 p.m., Mutava was captured walking outside the gate, still on the phone, while the senior police officer remained seated inside, talking with a woman. Witnesses say this was when Mutava was allegedly abducted.
The footage contradicts the officer’s account to the family that he had briefly stepped away to use the washroom during Mutava’s disappearance. Instead, the officer is seen remaining at the table, continuing his drink and interacting briefly with other men.
About an hour later, at 9:23 p.m., the officer left the venue accompanied by the same woman. The family questions why no intervention occurred and why the officer, who reportedly invited Mutava to the location, did not prevent the abduction.
Margaret Mutuku stated: "How does someone invite another to their home and then the person disappears? Our children keep asking where their father is. When I tell them I’m going to bring daddy, they get excited, but he never returns."
The last known mobile phone signal from Mutava was traced near Kamiti Road, but no new information has emerged regarding his whereabouts. Both the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) and the National Police Service have yet to comment on the case.
