A Nairobi family is demanding justice after their 30-year-old relative, Kennedy, was fatally stabbed by an online taxi driver during a road rage altercation near Nyayo National Stadium along Mombasa Road.
Kennedy had travelled from his rural home in Roret, Kericho County, and stopped at his cousin Leonard Cheruiyot's home in Uthiru. The two later went out for drinks before heading towards Pipeline to meet friends.
Sequence of Events on Mombasa Road
Leonard Cheruiyot described how the confrontation escalated:
- A vehicle hit their car from behind, prompting them to pull over.
- The same driver then approached and struck their windscreen.
- Recognizing the driver’s aggressive behaviour, they attempted to leave but were followed and called back to confront the man.
The taxi driver, whose car bears registration number KDD 428B, was recorded on video arguing with Kennedy. Police report that the suspect then retrieved a knife from his vehicle and stabbed Kennedy, who collapsed on the ground. Another individual was also injured during the incident.
Aftermath and Ongoing Investigation
The family rushed Kennedy to Mbagathi Hospital but were turned away and directed to Kenyatta National Hospital, where he later died.
Authorities confirmed that the suspect fled the scene. Makadara OCPD Judith Nyongesa stated that police have obtained the taxi driver's details from the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) and are actively pursuing a manhunt.
Family members gathered at Kenyatta National Hospital mortuary to identify Kennedy's body and begin funeral preparations, urging law enforcement to act swiftly.
"It's not fair. We want justice for Kennedy, for the family, and for everyone," a relative said.
